WHAT IS THE OLD MAN OF STORR?
The Old Man of Storr is a massive rock pinnacle standing tall and proud among the craggy hills of the Trotternish Ridge, on the north of Skye. Formed by ancient volcanic activity, the jagged rock formations surrounding the Old Man are a result of landslides millions of years ago. Its striking silhouette against the dramatic skies of Skye makes it a geological marvel and one of Scotland’s most photographed spots.
According to local legends, Skye was once an island of giants and the “Old Man” was a giant who once roamed the area and was killed in a clash of giants. When he died, his body was buried among the hills, and all that remains is his thumb, poking up through the earth. Some say you can still feel his presence when you hike through the area, adding an extra layer of magic to your elopement day!
